Pedler Creek Reserve in Seaford Rise is a hidden gem, a vibrant tapestry woven from wetlands, open spaces, and the meandering ribbon of Pedler Creek itself. Imagine a place where nature whispers secrets in the rustle of reeds and the gurgling water, where city life fades into the background, replaced by the symphony of birdsong and the gentle sigh of the wind.

As you enter the reserve, the smell of salt air mingles with the earthy fragrance of wetland. Wide, dusty tracks invite exploration, while winding paths beckon you deeper into the heart of the green. Listen closely, and you'll hear the chorus of insects, the trilling of frogs, and the occasional splash of a duck taking flight. Look around, and your eyes will meet a landscape bursting with color. Wildflowers paint the meadows in vibrant hues, reeds sway in the breeze like emerald dancers, and ancient gum trees offer dappled shade beneath their gnarled branches.

For adventure seekers, the reserve offers hiking and biking trails that wind through wetlands and woodlands, each turn revealing a new scene, a new melody in nature's song. Birdwatchers flock here, lured by the diverse birdlife that thrives in the protected habitat. Picnickers spread blankets under the trees, enjoying the serenity and fresh air. Children climb fallen logs, their laughter echoing through the reserve, adding their own joyous notes to the natural symphony.

But perhaps the heart of the reserve lies in Pedler Creek itself. This gentle waterway, winding through the landscape like a silver thread, is a magnet for life. Watch as fish dart through the reeds, dragonflies skim the surface, and turtles bask on sun-warmed rocks. Follow the creek, and you'll find hidden coves, perfect for quiet contemplation or a relaxing paddle. In spring, the banks come alive with wildflowers, transforming the creek into a vibrant ribbon of color.

Pedler Creek Reserve is more than just a park; it's a sanctuary for nature and a playground for the soul. It's a place to breathe deeply, to reconnect with the earth, and to listen to the whispers of the wild. So, come, explore its hidden paths, savor its natural beauty, and let Pedler Creek Reserve weave its magic on your heart.

Getting there…

The reserve is bounded to the north by Dalkeith Road, by Commercial Road to the west and by the back lines of the properties that lie on the crozier shape that is Grand Boulevard. The sides of the reserve where it runs alongside the houses off Grand Boulevard are steep, but there is a trail running along the top of the embankment.

Access to the reserve is easiest from either Dalkeith or Commercial Roads. There is no dedicated parking, so you’ll have to park on one of the neighbouring streets. Alternatively, if you fancy a longer walk you could park at Moana Beach and follow the shared-use trail along Nashwauk Crescent.

The walking trail connects to the Seaford Rise residential development and the Seaford Rise Shopping Centre, making it easily accessible.

See and do

The reserve is home to a diverse range of plants and animals, including over 100 bird species. The series of pools in the north-western part of the reserve are home to numerous species of waterfowl. There is a small pier that extends into the larger of the pools that provides the perfect spot to sit and watch the birds feed.

There are a series of walking trails that wind there way through the pools of water and connect the reserve to the surrounding roads. The trails also follow the route of the creek until it intersects with Main South Road. If it would please you, you can follow the connecting shared-use trail along Nashwauk Crescent to the beach at Moana, or join onto the Seaford Meadows Trail for good access to shops. There is also the access to the Coast to Vines Rail Trail, wither via the Seaford Meadows Trail or up the slope alongside Main South Road. There is also a less well defined trail that runs along the ridge behind the houses off Grand Boulevard.

Located besides Grand Boulevard, there is the Grand Boulevard Playground. A small playground with a small selection of equipment. The facilities at the Playground also include toilets, shelter and a barbeque, making it an ideal spot for an outdoors lunch.
